Cal. 12 GA. S# 7978. Bbl. 26 11/16". Model 1893 pump action shotgun mfg. by Winchester in 1895. The top of the bbl. is marked with Winchester's 2-line mfg. and patent information, followed by "12" at the breech. Action slide is marked "WINCHESTER/ MODEL 1893". Apparent replacement 3-screw grooved wood pump with sanded and refinished plain wood rnd. knob buttstock and plain steel buttplate. Replacement aluminum bead front sight. CONDITION: metal components retain traces of their original blue finish in protected areas, with the balancing having faded to a gray patina, exhibiting scattered areas of light pitting and age related discoloration, as well as patches of light to mild oxidation overall. Bore exhibits scattered spots and patches of mild to moderate pitting. Proper manual mechanics. Pump is very good, showing some scattered handling marks. Buttstock exhibits some scattered handling marks, with areas of finish loss / thinning overall. With only approx. 34,000 Model 1893 shotguns produced before the introduction of the Model 1897 and subsequent termination of 1893 production, making the 1893, especially a complete and functional example, a relatively rare find.
